Pastor's Piece - October
October is the month where we remember our beginnings in the Reformations of the Christian faith back in the 1500's. We are the spiritual descendants of a German monk, named Martin Luther, who fell in love with the word of God and the hope it gave to his life. One thing that makes us Lutherans Lutheran is that we take the Bible seriously. We believe that the Bible is the written Word of God. We believe that when we read the Bible it creates and nurtures faith in us through the work of the Holy Spirit. The Bible points us to Jesus who is the living Word of God and the center of our faith. We respect and love and take the Bible seriously. But we are not required to take the Bible literally. In fact, the teaching theologians and seminary professors in our church teach that the Bible is too important to be taken literally. One New Testament professor from Luther Seminary in Minnesota has a short article that tells about this: David Lose's 4 good reasons not to read the bible literally. Check it out and see what you think!
See you in church!
